Birthday 誕生日

I like birthdays. Not only mine, but also others.
Do you ask me why? Well, that is a special day for the person.

The my most surprising birthday was the 16th, that I had while I was staying in Seattle, Washington State, the U.S.A. as an exchange student.
I had know it was going to be a special one for me, but had no idea how special it was for a girl in that country to be "sixteen years old"...

誕生日が好きです。自分のもひとさまのも。
どうしてかって？そりゃ、「誕生日は、その人にとって特別な日だから」です。

これまでで一番びっくりな誕生日は、16才。
交換学生で、アメリカはワシントン州シアトルでホームステイ中のことでした。アメリカで誕生日を迎えることはもちろん自覚していましたが、かの国で女の子が16才になることを"Sweet Sixteen"と呼び、それはそれは特別なイベントだという知識は皆無でした。

それから幾年月。いろんな誕生日がありましたが、この頃はお祝いしてあげることはあっても、自分のを誰かに祝ってもらうことはあまりなくなってきました。日本ではごく普通のことなんだと思うようになりました。それでも、私にとって特別であることに変わりはなく、自分で自分を祝っていました。

今年。出張中に誕生日を迎えました。数日前に、同行している研修生の誕生日があり、そのパーティの準備をしていたときに、「実は私の誕生日も．．．」と話してしまいました。
そのご出張は淡々と過ぎて誕生日。毎朝もっているミーティングに行ったら、そこで「

New mobile phone 携帯電話切り替え

I have changed my mobile phone. Yes, not the renewal of the handset, but change of the carrier from NTT Docomo to Softbank.
Fortunately, there started MNP (Mobile Number Portability) system, so I did not need to change the phone number.
Something new might be nice, but at the moment (to confess you...), I am sturuggling with the new keys especially when writing e-mails.



携帯電話を新しくしました。電話機だけでなく、電話会社も。NTTドコモからソフトバンクへ。
さいわい、MNP：ナンバーポータビリティー制度のおかげで番号は持って行けるのが楽でした。
何か新しいことが始まるのはいいものですが、今、新しい電話機のキー操作に慣れるのが大変です。
電話機を作る会社というより、電話会社によっておおまかな配列が決まっているのか、会社を変えたことによる変化は、単なる機種変更の時よりもおおきいように思えます。

Der Himmel ueber Berlin ベルリン・天使の詩

写真は桜坂劇場のサイトから切り取りました。

いつタイトルを知ったのか覚えていないけれど、ずっと観たいと思っていた映画が沖縄に来ました。
忙しいのに無理矢理スケジュールを調整して出かけました（みなさんご協力ありがとう）。それくらい観たかった映画。どうしてなのかわからないけれど。
「ベルリン・天使の詩　原題は　Der Himmel Ueber Berlin」と言います。1987年、西ドイツの作品。
観てよかったです。上質の映画でした。

人間に恋した天使ダミエルの物語。
最近の映画のように、オープニング間もなく事件がおこるわけではなく、詩のような独白と西ベルリンの風景が淡々と画面を流れます。
アメリカの俳優ピーター・フォークが、本人の役で出演しているのが大きなアクセント＆意味を持っています。（わかったときにはびっくりしたー）

頑張って出かけたものの、体調が下り坂で薬を飲んだからか、前半はベルリンの街の光景とともに流れる詩（天使や人間の独白）が子守歌。うとうとしながら観ていました。
天使の世界がモノクロ、私たちがいる世界がカラーの推移は静かでしたがドラマチックなものです。

映画に詳しくないからか、たいていの映画をそのまま納得して受け入れることができるのですが、ひとつだけ不満が。「最後のしゃべりは、あそこまで長くなくてもよかったかな。」

I love carrots so much.
One of my colleagues gave me carrots from her garden.
After I ate half of them, I got an idea to take a photo for this blog.
She and her husband enjoy house gardening, and I am lucky to have some harvests.
The carrots were soft, and tasted sweet.


半端じゃないくらい「にんじん」が好きです。
先日、同僚からにんじんをいただきました。
半分をいただいてしまったあとで、「そうだ、ブログに載せよ！」と思い、写真を撮りました。
同僚は、仕事の傍ら、いろいろな野菜を作っており、ときどきお裾分けしていただいています。
ご夫婦だけの優雅な生活がうらやましい！　にんじんは、柔らかく、甘く、懐かしい味がしました。

Meeting again after 17 years 17年ぶりの再会

仕事では、いろいろな国から来た人に出会います。短いと数日、長くても半年くらい一緒に過ごした後、彼らは国に戻っていきます。見送るとき、おそらくもう二度と会えないだろうと思いながらも、私はいつも「またね。See you!」と言うことにしています。その方が何だか再会できそうな気がするから。
中には、ほんとに再会できる人がいます。新婚旅行などのプライベートな旅行、留学、そして研修生としての再来日・再来沖。
ここの仕事を始めて間もない1990年に担当したひとりに再会しました。アルゼンチンのネストールさん。


I meet many people through job. We share time together for between several days and half a year, then the trainees leave us. Whenever we part, I have made it a rule not to say "Good bye", but "See you!"
Some of them really come back to Okinawa. Some visit for the honeymoon, the family trip, the study in Japan or in Okinawa. But some of them come here as trainees again.
One of those is Nestor from Argentina, whom I was in charge of PC Introduction in 1990. It was a little after I started working here. Welcome back!

German with Kimon やっててよかった公文式？

日本では、言わずとしれた「公文式」。算数教育が有名ですが、あるんですねぇ、ドイツ語も。
それも、通信教育で勉強できるの。
SNS（Social Network Service)のmixiで調べてみたりして、始めることにしました。
写真で見ても、1回あたりの量はあまり多くなく、しかも始めはとても易しい。
人によっては「会話の勉強にはならない」ということですが、私は指導者にいてもらって、系統的にやらなくちゃ。

"Kumon" is a lerning method developed by a Japanese whose name is Kumon. It is widely practiced in Japan, and I got to know it has been introduced in some overseas countries. Math is the most common subject to learn with it, but I found there is German by Kumon!
I asked some of my virtual friends (friends on the Internet) about it efficiency, and I decided to start it.
As you can find that the volume per a lesson is not big, and the lerning level is fairly low at the beginning.
A friend of mine said it is not very effective for conversation, which I agree with.
But I think I need to learn German systematically with my own tutor!

The message above popped up while I was receiving an e-mail.
Oh, nice to meet you...no, no, no. But it was the first time for me to see this.
I noticed that my virus cheking software was really functioning.

Shall we dance? - Ballet! 私がバレエなんて！

I've been practicing "Jazzercise". It is a fitness program made up by Jazzdance and muscle tuning. I got to know it in 1993, but I quitted because I thought it was too hard for me. But I restarted it in 1999 for my medical necessity. Somehow, I've kept doing it, and now I really love it to have "a desire" to dance better.
Jazzerciseというフィットネスプログラムに通っています。最初に知ったのは1993年ですが、その時にはあまりのハードさ（に思えた）に数回でギブアップ。医学的必要性に迫られて1999年に再開し、何故か今まで続いています。今ではすっかり楽しくなり、「もっと上手に踊りたい！」とさえ思うようになりました。昔の私を知る人にはびっくりの変化でしょう。

I heard that Ballet is the basic of all dances. Well, in Jazzercise, we use a lot of terminologies from Ballet, so I wanted to try it.
最近、「すべての踊りの基本はバレエだ」と聞きました。確かに、Jazzerciseでもバレエ用語がいくつも出てきます。バレエもやってみたくなりました。

Since I have no time to attend a Ballet class, I bought a book.
教室に通う時間（勇気も）がないので、本を買いました。

I will mainly try strech exercises and basic forms, and I hope to enjoy it for my goal: to dance Jazzercise better!
ストレッチとか、基本姿勢を練習するくらいだと思いますが、楽しんで続けたいと思います。それもこれも、きれいなJazzerciseを踊るため！

Shall we dance - Pacific 踊りましょう -大洋州

I have been learning dances of Pacific region with my friends/colleagues. The instructors are Samoan ladies that we got acquainted through job. We aim to dance three: Fijian, general Pacific (sang in Tokerau language), and Samoan. We always start lesson by wrapping our hip with a cloth with beautiful Pacific patterns.　We meet only weveral times a year, so our pregress is very slow, but our lesson is always filled with laughter. Last time, at long last, we started to practice "Ua Mamalu", which is my most favorite one.

仕事を通じて知り合ったサモア人女性に、大洋州のダンスを教わっています。フィジー、大洋州全般で踊られているもの（トケラウ島の言葉）、サモアの3曲を踊れるようになるのが目標です。
いつも、大洋州独特の模様の布を腰に巻いて練習開始です。
年に数回集まる程度なので、なかなか前に進まず、レッスンは毎回大爆笑。
それでも、今回、やっと念願のサモアの曲「Ua Mamalu うあ・ままる」を始めることになりました。

Some of our members have started to consider our performance presentation. They want it to show off :) Me? I have no desire to dance in public, but I do want to dance in the same costume.

上手になってくるとだんだん欲が出てくるもので、発表の場がないものか思案するメンバーも出てきました。私は「自己満足派」なので、発表の場にはこだわりませんが、みんなでお揃いのコスチュームを着て踊りたいなと思っています。

New friends arrived 新しい研修生 ご到着

The third training group has arrived in Okinawa after I launched this blog, while I am still missing the previous goup that I was the course leader.
このブログを始めて、早くも3グループ目の研修生ご一行がやってきました。
自分が担当したビデオ研修のグループがまだまだ恋しいというのに。

I never forget the trainees who shared time and returned to their countries, I just get new friends. I always cherish the time and memories with them, and I always pray for them. This is the first step for me to found peaceful world.
一緒に過ごし、帰国していった彼らを忘れることは決してありません。新しい友だちがどんどん増えていくだけです。
みんなのことを大切に思う、その気持ちが私の中の平和構築の第一歩です。

In this group, the trainees from Pakistan and Honduras are the friends/colleagues of my ex-trainees. I am practicing "A friend of my friend is also my friend!."
Isn't is a happy network?
Anyway, let me wish them happy, healthy and fruitful days with us!
今回は、パキスタンとホンジュラスが、帰国研修員のお友だち。ほんとに「友だちの友だちは友だち」を実践しています。うれしいネットワークです。

たいていどこに行くにも「カメラを持って」行きます。どこで素敵なシャッターチャンスにめぐり合えるかわからないもの。特に、2002年9月にデジカメを購入してからというもの、持ち歩きが簡単で手軽に撮れる楽しさを享受しています。

でも。先月、仕事で小学校を訪問したとき、元気のいい子どもたちに私のテンションも上がってしまってカメラを落として壊してしまいました。暫定的に直したものの、やはり一時しのぎにすぎず、結局ぜんぜんだめにしてしまいました。
昨年、プロのカメラマンを擁する現在の部署に移り、一眼レフデジカメを使うようになって、今度買うなら「一眼レフデジカメがいいかなぁ…」と考えたりして、だいぶ迷ったのですが、今年はサンタクロースが
やってきました。

写真生活を楽しもう！と思います。

I passed it! 受かっちゃった

As I wrote in a previous article, I have been learning German with one objective. It is to enjoy conversation with my Austrian family friend.
There is an authorized exam of the language, and I took it in November. This time, apparently my preparation was not enough. But I dare took it because I did not want to wast the fee I had paid for the application.
Once the exam was started, unconsciously of course, I concentrated myself on it. I thought I understood more than I expected to myself. What was more, I thought I understood almost all in listening complihension!
Then, the result was delivered today........
Yes, I passed it! Unbelievable! Amazing! Miracle! Whatever!
The next step is my final goal in the exam, and I am going to take it in November, next year. From this grade, the applicants must take oral test, which is more harder for me, because there is nobody around to practice.



以前に書きましたが、ある目標をもってドイツ語を勉強しています。それは「オーストリア人の友人一家とドイツ語で会話したい」というもの。日本には「ドイツ語検定（独検）」があり、11月に受験しました。今回は明らかに勉強不足でしたが、せっかく支払った受験料が惜しくて受験しました。いざ試験が始まると、問題に集中してしまい、思った以上に理解できることに驚きました。さらには、聞き取りのテストは「オーストリア人の友人が降りてきたのではないか」と思うほどに理解できて・・・。
今日、結果が送られてきました。
受かっちゃった！　信じられない！すばらしい！奇跡だ！この際何でもいい！
さて。次の2級が独検における私のゴール。また11月に試験を受けます。この級からは会話の面接試験がありますが、これが厳しいのよねぇ…会話の練習相手がいないから。

Happy "Madaraka" Day, Kenya!

Today, December 12 is the Independence Day of Kenya.
In my present group, there is a Kenyan (what is more, he is the only Kenyan among all trainees in our institute!), so I would like to convey my best wishes.
今日、12月12日はケニアの独立記念日です。
担当している研修生の中に、ケニアの人がいます。（しかも研修機関全体で彼ひとりなんですって）
お祝いしたいと思います。

To celebrate the day, the restaurant of our organization prepared a Kanyan meal called "Karanga". Whe not trying this today!
お祝いに、「カランガ」というケニア料理が出されました。食べなきゃ。
「カランガ」は、野菜と肉の煮込みでした。シンプルな味付けがおいしい料理でした。

Thanks to my Mom this time (Ref to #31)

As I wrote in #31, I believe "Shorter the distance, better the quality." in cooking material.
This time, fresh banana came from my mother. Thanks to not only to our mother earth, but to my own mother!! I love you, Mom!

#31にも書きましたが、「畑と台所の距離は短いほどいい」と思います。
先日、母から採りたてのバナナをもらいました。祖父の頃からの畑で、伯父が育てたバナナです。もちろん完全無農薬！私の母と、母なる大地にも感謝していただきまーす！

Where do you have your lunch?
During weekdays, I mainly eat lunch in the office, just in front of my PC. These days, I bring lunch from home.
どこでお昼ご飯を食べますか？　私はほとんどオフィスでパソコンに向かって昼食をとります。この頃はお弁当持参が多いです。

It is the time for the private e-mails, preparation for the afternoon session, or mere browsing the Internet.
パソコンに向かって個人的なメールをチェックしたり、午後の講義の準備をしたり、ネットサーフィンをしたりします。

Sometimes I eat out with friends, or eat at the dining hall of the Institute I work. Today I had lunch there with my trainees.
時には同僚や友だちと外食したり、職場にある食堂で研修生と食べることもあります。今日はそういう日でした。
